Nauru Island’s Western Shoreline

The C2 site for ARM’s Tropical Western Pacific (TWP) began operations in 1998 on Nauru Island, officially known as the Republic of Nauru. Nauru shows the highest climatic variability in outgoing longwave radiation in the world and is located on the eastern edge of the Pacific warm pool, which plays a large role in the interannual variability observed in the global climate system.
