ARM Model Advisory Committee

In response to recommendations from the 2024 ARM Triennial Review, the newly formed ARM Model Advisory Committee (AMAC) will help inform the development of a prioritized plan for ARM model-data integration activities focused on continued engagement with and support for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Atmospheric System Research (ASR) and Energy Exascale Earth System Model (E3SM)/Simple Cloud-Resolving E3SM Atmosphere Model (SCREAM) modeling communities.

Organizational Structure

The AMAC reports to the ARM Associate Director for Research. This group consists of members of the modeling community representing different functional and scientific domains and ARM infrastructure staff (ex officio members) who are knowledgeable about ARM’s measurements, data products, and high-resolution model simulations.

The AMAC is made up of atmospheric scientists, modelers, and data experts from national labs and universities. Together, they represent a wide range of experience: cloud microphysics, land-atmosphere interactions, boundary-layer processes, aerosols, data assimilation, artificial intelligence, and modeling across scales.

Current AMAC members include:

  • Yan Feng, Co-Lead, Argonne National Laboratory
  • Hailong Wang, Co-Lead, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory
  • Peter Bogenschutz, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
  • TC Chakraborty, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory
  • Jerome Fast, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory
  • Scott Giangrande (ex officio), Brookhaven National Laboratory
  • William Gustafson (ex officio), Pacific Northwest National Laboratory
  • Thijs Heus, Cleveland State University
  • Adele Igel, University of California, Davis
  • Zhaoxia Pu, University of Utah
  • Shaocheng Xie (ex officio), Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
  • Damao Zhang (ex officio), Pacific Northwest National Laboratory
  • Yunyan Zhang, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
  • Xue Zheng, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
