Evaluation of UV albedo at the Cape-k campaign

The Radiation sub-program has been operating as part of the Kennaook Cape Grim (KCG) Science Program since 1976. During that time the ground surface around the station and permanent instruments have been either unfarmed land or farmland (pastoral land) and generally covered in vegetation. A confirmed Cape-k campaign that will last at least 18 months will impact some of the natural coverage of the land. Some areas will be prepared with built environment areas for the safe operation of the temporarily located instruments (in the form of gravel pads). A possible effect of this temporary campaign is that it will modify the upwelling solar UV irradiance in this area, which may cause a possible change to solar irradiance measurements that are undertaken during the campaign (from the current instruments and temporarily sited instruments). This project proposes to conduct short-term assessment on the upwelling solar irradiance during and after the period at the site of the Cape-k campaign/second ARM Mobile Facility (AMF2). This assessment will provide information to the Radiation program scientists about the quality of the spectral and broadband irradiance data collected at KCG, and if the proposed campaign has potentially influenced the data collected at the site. This is intended to provide a quality assurance assessment and review of the data collected at KCG and at the AMF2 deployment site, which will be important for long-term review of data collection.
