World’s premier ground-based observations facility advancing atmospheric research

KIBL

Kent Island boundary layer

12 February 2025 - 30 November 2025

Lead Scientist: Richard Damoah

Observatory: AMF (ARM Mobile Facility 1)

Bay atmosphere thermodynamics – long-term, day/night, IOP match to CoURAGE IOPs.  ABL and lower trop – influenced by the bay and important for urban climate and AQ and cloud development.

  1. Weekly soundings, alternating day and night from Kent Island to get low-frequency, long-term observations of ABL/ lower troposheric thermodynamic structure.
  2. High frequency sampling (2-3x/day) at times matching CoURAGE IOP soundings. Short-term high frequency info to complement longer-term data set. 12Z, 18Z highest priority.  0Z if possible.
